Me in Iowa, Who Would've Thought? : An "Ain't Many Acres" Blog
Who would've thought when we got married, Dave and I would be living on a small, okay, very small ranch (three acres worth) in South Central Iowa years later? Not me, that's for sure! But here we are living on our little pony ranch. We no longer have any ponies, but we used to have three, so we, okay I did, but Dave agreed, suitably named the place, "Ain't Many Acres Pony Ranch." We love it here.

Christmas Present
We are getting a new corgi puppy for Christmas. Her name is Lucy and she was born two days after Molly passed.
Dave said that he wanted to wait until spring, but I had a feeling that he would change his mind about getting one, so I acted now.
It will be different having a puppy in the house again. It doesn't take away from the fact that I miss Molly terribly. I still look to see her in places that she used to lay and look at the clock at around 5:00 to see how long it will be until she gets fed, and then I remember that she's not here anymore. 😓
It's been so quiet around here. I am looking forward to having a corgi again.

Rest in Peace, Molly
It is with great sorrow that I announce that our beloved Corgi, Molly has passed away.
It was discovered yesterday that she had an aggressive form of cancer and rather than let her suffer any longer, Dave and I made the heartbreaking decision to let her cross the Rainbow Bridge. She will be forever missed.
Molly
March 2, 2017 - October 27, 2025
We picked Molly up from the breeder on April 21, 2017, and from that day on she brought us joy, laughter, sassiness, and the stubbornness that corgis are known for.
She loved to play with or rather tear up her toys and if you tried to take them from her, watch out as she was very possessive of them. Her favorite toys were her squeaky balls that looked like animals. she had a few others too, such as the squeaky pickles I found for her online but her squeaky balls were her absolute favorite. Lucky for us, she never chewed on our shoes or any other item of ours and she loved taking walks.
She had several beds around the house, two under our bed which was 18 inches tall for that reason. She also had a couple in the living room, her favorite being a pink car bed which never did make it to the car even though I bought it for that purpose. When it was hot she loved laying in the bathroom between the toilet and tub.
She loved when our son and daughter-in-law came for the holidays.
She hated having her paws touched and really put up a fuss with getting her nails trimmed. The last few times though she was pretty good about it. She also didn't like having her rear end touched. I think it was from having her tail docked when she was a newborn pup.
I miss her so much it hurts. She was my little shadow, my Munchkin and Baby Girl. I will never forget her.
Until we meet again, Molly, remember that you are loved and missed dearly.

A lot Has Happened
Let's see, where do I begin?
First, as you know, I had my cataract surgery. Now, I have developed a shadow in my left eye that is blocking most of my vision in that eye. After an emergency trip to my eye doctor, I found out that I have a swollen optic nerve. I have an appointment on Monday at the clinic I had my pre-exam and surgery at to have them check it out. I wish I had been able to get an appointment for sooner, but unfortunately that's when they scheduled me for. It's also with a different doctor, so we'll see what he had to say. I've read up on the condition and it stated that it usually clears up with treatment in a few months, so let's hope it does.
One of the things they stated in the articles I've read about swollen optic nerves is that they can be caused by high blood pressure, so since mine has been running high, I finally did something about it and am now on medication for it. I also ordered a new blood pressure monitor that is very highly rated.
After being laid off for over a year, our youngest son has found a job. Needless to say, Dave and I are very happy for him.
We have a new Pope. Pope Francis died the day after Easter. The new Pope was elected this morning after only two days. He's also American born, the first one ever. The press was saying before that he was a long shot, but it just goes to show how much they knew.
It finally feels like Spring. For the longest while it has been chilly or downright cold. It's finally warm enough to go without a sweater or jacket. Needless to say, I'm pleased. I have had to sleep with a fleece throw on my side of the bed to stay warm. It's nice to finally not have to.
Well, that's about it for now. I'll let you all know how the appointment on Monday goes.

I'm Proud of Myself
I have to file an annual report for guardianship of David every year. Of course, it's annual, duh! Anyway, this is the first time I've had to do it electronically and I figured out how to do it all by myself with no help from Dave or anyone else 😁

Had My Cataract Surgeries
I had the first one on January 28th and the second one on Valentine's Day.
The second one went a lot better than the first. Well, the surgery went well for the first one but the blood pressure cup got way too tight which stressed me out big time and I was not able to relax despite having anesthesia.
The day of the second one was way less stressful. I was able to sleep in longer, we didn't have to be there until 11:35 unlike 7:30 for the first one. I also knew what to expect. I also told the doctor about the blood pressure cup and they left it off during surgery so the anesthesia worked and I was able to fully relax.
The only thing I would change if I could would be to have the distance lenses put in rather than the close up ones. I can still see without glasses, but I will need them to drive. So I can't drive until I get new glasses. Actually that doesn't bother me too much because I don't have to drive David to work, plus I always liked picking out new glasses. I do have a pair of cheap sunglasses that I picked up at Walmart for when we go somewhere and I don't have to drive.
On another note, I need to get my blood pressure under control, it shot up way too high on both days.

I wonder...
If Molly is starting to mellow or if it was because I was scratching behind her ears.
Today Dave and I took her to the vet to get her nails trimmed and she was actually really good. Usually she acts up, growling and trying to get away. Today she only growled twice and that was when the vet accidentally cut her nail too short. She also stayed still and didn't thratch about at all.
I don't know why she was so good but it was a nice surprise.

A Road Trip Back Home
Dave and I made the trip back to my hometown for my 50th high school class reunion. We had a nice time and my two best friends were there plus another classmate we were all friends with. It was good seeing everyone who attended and I was sad that a couple I wished would have come, didn't.
I still can't believe that it's been 50 years! Where did all that time go?
Aside from my class reunion, we spent time with my family and an old friend that I didn't get to see last year when we were there. We had good times with all of them. My oldest sister's youngest grandson also had a birthday and we helped them celebrate that. Also, the Steelers won! A good night
The night before we left; I wish I had booked a longer trip; my sisters, brother, sister-in-law, and brother-in-law took us out to dinner. We laughed so hard at old times, which when they happened weren't so funny. I had run to the ladies' room and on my way back to the table, I heard my brother say the nicest thing to Dave. I wish I had heard the whole conversation, but Dave told me what it was about.
At the end of the night I think I hugged everybody but my brother-in-law. If I didn't, I'm sorry Bill. I meant to, I really did. Next time, I promise.

Canceled!
Although I was scheduled to have the last of my cataract surgeries this week, neither happened. The surgeon wanted to reexamine my left eye and after that examination, the surgeon canceled the surgeries. He determined that I might have glacoma in that eye, so he postponed the surgeries until I have it reexamined on October 28. So, rather than being glasses free for my class reunion, I will still be wearing them. Bummer!
Let's hope that the reexamination results in the surgeries being rescheduled.

Cataract Surgery
Well, I am scheduled for cataract surgery for August 27. First, however, the surgeon wants to recheck my left eye. Apparently they detected a problem with the nerve in that eye, so I go to have that rechecked on Tuesday morning. I'm also going to ask if I can change my choice of lense. If not, then I guess I'm stuck with the one I originally chose. Wish me luck. I will keep you all posted.
