New Smile

I don't know how many of you know, but I wear dentures. I'm not proud of it, but that's the way things go.

A few weeks ago, I was eating a pasta salad; yes, you read that right, and my upper denture broke in half. I was shocked. This was over the weekend, so on Monday morning I was on the phone to the dentist's office only to find that they were closed. UGH!! So after trying for several days and not getting any replies, I decided to go up to their website. Lo and behold, they had their hours posted and now had scheduling for appointments online as well. Mind you I hadn't been on the site for several years and hadn't been in their office since the pandemic hit. I know, too long. So, I scheduled an appointment for the next opening and gave the reason why. Right after I scheduled I got a call from them returning my call and explained what happened and that I scheduled an appointment to get the ball rolling to replacing my broken denture. I had not gotten the dentures at that office, but at another one and when our insurance changed due to Dave changing jobs I had to find another dentist because that one didn't accept the new insurance. Luckily this one is much closer to home. I also had my lower denture replaced by them before the pandemic hit.

Now, after all of that, I have my new denture. So far, so good. I know it's only been a few hours, but it fits comfortably and doesn't hurt at all. The bottom one needed several adjustments. Hopefully this one won't have to.

Oh, while I was waiting, there was a father with his kids who were waiting. His one son came out after getting a tooth pulled. He was not a happy camper and the father told him, "You see what happens when you don't brush your teeth?"

Bottom line, take care of your teeth. Dentures aren't cheap. These were less expensive than the last ones, but it's still money I wouldn't have had to spend if I had just taken care of my teeth like I should have.

I am sorry

I  apologize to anyone I may have offended by anything I have written in my posts. I do not mean to.

I use this blog at times to vent about family members and some may recognize themselves in some of my vents.

The things I post here are things that are happening in my life and yes things that I get frustrated about or am unhappy about. I do not mention any names of family members other than those of my son and husband. Others do remain anonymous. I will try to be more vague in the future or not post about them at all unless it's things they would approve of.

Again, I apologize.

Rest in Peace Oreo

 August ?, 2005-June 22, 2022

I don't know why I haven't written about this yet. Maybe because I just can't believe that we have lost yet another of our cats, this time or oldest one, Oreo. Our Patches is the only one left. She is 16.

I made the difficult decision to have him euthanized on June 22, a month and one day ago. I was hoping that he would make it to 17, but he missed it by a month. He was just too sick and it would have been cruel to let him hang on. I could tell that he was slowly dying and I couldn't watch him suffer any longer. He had also gone from 13 pounds down to five in a little over a year. When he had lost another pound in less than a month, I told the vet that it was time to let him go.

I love our vets. They have been through a lot with our pets since we have been going to them. When Molly had her surgery in November, they stayed at the office until we arrived with her after hours after having to take her up to Des Moines to have a catheter inserted into her bladder and took great care of her afterwards.

Our Max

I'm always talking about Molly, but this time it's not about her, but about Max.

It's hard to believe that this little guy is 15. He's been through a lot, especially in the last few years. As you can see, he lost an eye due to glaucoma. and is slowly losing his mobility. But he's still hanging in there. He's also showing Molly and the kitties who is boss more often. I guess he's tired of being bullied by Molly.

I don't know how much longer we'll have with him but he's my sweet baby boy and I love him dearly.
