Boy, have I neglected this blog this year, I really don't have an excuse so I won't make one up. But this post is to let you all know what has been happening in our lives.
January was pretty uneventful. Dave started a new job the month before. The pups seemed pretty happy, the cats not so much. But when are cats really ever happy?
February Dave and celebrated our 38th anniversary pretty quietly. We're not ones to go out and do big celebrations, but maybe for our 40th.
March, can't really think of anything out of the ordinary. As you can tell, we live very uneventful lives for the most part.
April, again nothing too exciting.
May, we found out the day before my birthday that Rolli was dying from kidney failure. The vet gave her three months, but we knew by the end of the month that she wasn't going to last that long and because of her rapid weight loss from not eating (we tried almost everything) we made the very tough decision to say goodbye. Dave took her death very hard. I had already done most of my brying the weekend before.
The day we did, on the way home I saw two clouds in the sky, one that looked like Rolli and another that looked like Jake running towards each other. Yes, I do wholeheartedly believe that dogs have souls. We had her cremated just as we did with Jake and placed her ashes in a very nicely decorated by me box that now sits next to Jake's in one of the cabinets.
At almost 15 years old, it depresses me to think that Angel's time on this earth will be coming to an end fairly soon.
June was again fairly quiet, the same with July and August.
In September we were supposed to go back east for a 60th birthday bash that my high school class was having. Unfortunately we couldn't go. I was going to go by myself, but that also fell through. I was bummed. I really wanted to go back and spend some time with family and to met my newest grand niece. My older sister had had major surgery a couple months before and I really wanted to see how she was doing. It just wasn't in the cards.
The reason why happened in October. Max, our younger pup had to have surgery on his neck. It turned out to be the best decision we ever made. Although because of the cost and his rehabilitation meant that my trip had to be canceled, Max became his old self again, acting like the mischievous pup he was before. The bonus was that he was always wagging his tail. The surgeon was really surprised and very pleased at how well Max's recovery went. He gave Max a clean bill of health six weeks later and said that he could go back to running and jumping. The running he will do, but he doesn't like jumping so much so I've kept the ramp I made for him in the living room so that he can get on the couch easier.
With November came the presidential elections. Everyone thought that Hillary Clinton was going to win and the media was trying their darnest to make it happen. One problem, they forgot about the middle of the country. Although he didn't win the popular vote, Donald Trump won enough electoral votes to put him over the top and he will become our 45th president. I have to admit, I'm glad that Hillary lost, but I would have liked someone else instead of Trump; but it is what it is. Too bad a lot of Hillary supporters couldn't be mature enough to deal with it. The day after there were protests and all kinds of unrest by them. I can only imagine what the inuaguration will bring. We can only pray that all goes well.
In November Dave and I also made a day trip down to Kansas City to check out the IKEA store there since we didn't have one here in Des Moines. We were also able to spend some time with Kenneth and Elicia. We had a really great time and the weather was perfect. We were going through a really warm spell.
Of course November also meant Thanksgiving. My sister's and Max's recoveries gave me a lot to be thankful for. Kenneth and Elicia came up for the day. David unfortunately had to work, poor kid. We had a nice visit with them. Dave cooked the turkey breast as always and I made the stuffing, or dressing, whichever you want to call it.
That brings us to this month. Dave and I again made another trip down to Kansas City, but this time Kenneth and Elicia weren't able to join us. We still had a good time going through IKEA again. I was even able to find an artificial white poinsettia like the one I already had to go on the fireplace.
Kenneth and Elicia came up on Christmas Eve this year but David had to woruk only until 6:00 rather than his usual 10:00, so he was able to have dinner with us. Christmas day was rainy and miserable, a perfect day to stay home cuddle up with a good book or watching TV. My Steelers pulled off a win against the Ravens, so I was happy.
We've gone though some rough spots this year, but who doesn't have those from time to time. We're all healthy, so that's always something to be grateful for. I wish the same good health and good luck to everyone reading this. May your New Year be prosperous and healthy and may it be the same for your loved ones.
Happy New Year's everyone and best wishes for the coming year. May God bless you all.
