I Can't Believe It

I have written a post yet this month. Why, I have no excuse. I kept meaning to, but it just slipped my mind.

Well, I do have some exciting news to share. A couple weeks ago I was contacted by a cousin on my mother's side of the family. My sisters and I knew we had cousins but we didn't know how to get in touch with them because we thought that all of our mother's siblings were deceased. We were wrong!

Turns out that one of her older sisters is still alive and her daughter was the one who contacted me through Ancestry.com. I had just rejoined, I would say probably the day before. The information I had on our family tree had been up there for awhile though. The weird thing was that she had done a search before but that information never came up; maybe because I let my membership lapse, but as luck would have it and the good Lord saw it fit, we were reconnected.

It's been interesting passing information back and forth. We've learned some facts about our mom's childhood, which unfortunately was not a happy one. Now we know why she and apparently her sister refused to talk about it. We also learned some things about our grandparents. We also shared pictures with each other. It was fun seeing the family resemblance.

It was a really nice surprise and I hope we stay in touch with each other. We were never close to anyone on that side, obviously, but hopefully now that will change.

  1. How nice for you! My older son and husband have played around with Ancestry but haven't found anyone yet that is new to us. I have cousins that I rarely see anymore, but keep in touch somewhat through Facebook.
