Well, it is. It's the perfect time to add that special someone to your family, small, large, or somewhere in between; long coat, short coat, doesn't matter; there is a variety at your local shelter for you to choose from. Young, old, purebred, mutt, they're all there.
Jake was adopted from a shelter. He was a puppy at the time but we had originally gone there to adopt an adult dog, also named Jake. The only problem with that Jake is that he didn't like cats and we had one.
As you all know from an earlier post, Jake passed away in April at the age of 13, but for those 13 years, he was my constant companion. I used to jokingly call him my "shadow," because wherever I went in the house, he was sure to follow.
One thing I can attest to is that any rescue dog, whether they be from a shelter or as a stray, are the most loyal dogs. They know that they were blessed to be chosen by you and will give you unconditional love and loyalty throughout their lives. Jake sure did.
