Found out some devastating news this morning.
It all started Friday night, Rolli started tilting her head, so this morning when I got up, I immediately called the vet's office. They were able to get me in at 11:30. I was there about ten minutes early.
Well, it turned out the Rolli's head tilting was due to an ear infection, no big deal, we've dealt with them before.
Before the vet saw her, she got weighed and I found out that since November, she had lost another four pounds. I forget how much she had lost in November, but because of that and after talking to the vet about what the underlying problem could be, I decided to have some blood work done on her. That's when I found out that Rolli's kidneys are failing and according to the vet, she only has a few months left; that she would be surprised if Rolli lasted out the year.
Needless to say, I was shocked when she said those words. I still can't wrap my brain around them, I guess I'm in denial. I mean I knew that she wasn't going to last forever, but she seems healthy and active otherwise. Yes, she's slowed down, but she's 16, that's expected, but this?
I knew I asked for the test knowing that tomorrow is my birthday and if the news was bad, it would be the second time something like this happened right before my birthday. Jake passed away three days before my birthday and I picked his ashes up on my birthday, so I knew it could be another "right before my birthday" shock to deal with.
At least we still have some time with Rolli though. I'm not sure how long, but we're going to make the best of it. She deserves that much.
