The football lockout is finally over, that's good, Go Steelers! We're getting political calls, seeing political ads on TV and having politicians who hope to become president next year coming here to Iowa already; that's bad.
It goes along with the territory of being "first in the nation," meaning that we are the first to hold a caucus or primary in the country during a presidential election year. It's the only time anyone in Washington ever really cares about Iowa. After that, we return to being "fly over country," being flown over and forgotten. I wonder if any of them are going to show up at the state fair next month. I can't imagine that they would miss that opportunity.
We are at a crisis point in D.C. right now and they're out campaigning. Get back to Washington those who are in the House and Senate and do the job you were elected to do, especially now. Don't sit there and bad mouth the other guys when you're not doing your job, but are out traveling around the countryside. If you want to campaign, do it after the crisis has passed, not during. You're not helping the situation. Dumb, dumb, dumb! There is one person in particular, but I'm not going to mention names.
I say this every election year, in this case since ours starts the year before the actual election year, I'll be glad when it's over. But it won't be long until it starts up all over again. We can't win!
